The Metis people in Manitoba are a significant part of the social and cultural fabric that makes our great Province. Visitors of the Rat River Metis Tour will gain a unique understanding of the Metis people in the Rat River Region of Manitoba, how they lived, traded, and grew their families. Learn how they kept their stomachs and hearts full in their very active lives. Expect to learn some to make some local cuisine, local heritage stories, participate in some amusing activities (local competition is encouraged), and gain a greater appreciation of those who followed and utilized the Crow Wing Trail as their connecting route to landscapes beyond. Your tour will start with a Metis culinary experience, followed by an interpretive tour that finished with each guest tasting their culinary masterpiece.

What to Expect:

  • A guided interpretive experience that includes a culinary creation 

  • Tours begin and end at J’em Bistro 

  • The tour will take place outdoors rain or shine (not in thunderstorm) so please dress for the weather, including comfortable shoes 

  • The tour will include a few interactive activities 
  • Visitors must be able to walk/ stand for a duration of approximately 1 hour 

  • There is free and ample parking onsite  

  • Visitors must arrive 10 mins prior to the tour start time 

  • Visitors must be able to stand and walk on grass, gravel terrain for approximately an hour. This tour is scooter and wheel chair accessible.  

  • You will have a culinary item to take away following the tour 
  • Visitors can purchase additional items and treats and J’em Bistro following the tour 


  • All tours are pre- booked with a minimum of 3 participants to a maximum of 8 

  • Tour times are 1pm

  • Custom private bookings are available upon request 

  • Those with allergies, should notify upon booking 

  • Culinary options for the tour include:

    • Option 1: Guided tour with Bannock and Jam: $40.00/per person 

    • Option 2: Guided tour with pork/beef tourtière  (includes a take home tourtière plus a slice to enjoy in house) $60.00/per person 

    • Option 3: Guided tour with beef/venison tourtière (includes a take home tourtière plus a slice to enjoy in house) $65.00/ per person 

    • Option 4: Guided tour with venison tourtière (includes a take home tourtière plus a slice to enjoy in house) $70.00/per person 
  • Children not making their own culinary item may accompany a fully paid admission adult for $5.00/ per person.
